To the Holland-Springfield Community:

Springfield Local School leaders prepare staff and students for countless emergency situations–from chemical spills to active shooter training.

In all situations, the first priority is to minimize any risk as soon as possible. The district remains committed to open and transparent communication with all community partners.

On Friday, December 3, Springfield Local Schools communicated with parents how seriously it takes every comment, rumor or perceived threat to the safety of our students, staff and facilities.

This communication was motivated following both the tragedy at Oxford High School and an unsubstantiated threat that was uncovered at a local career center.

On December 7, Springfield leaders became aware of a threat to safety involving a student enrolled in Springfield Local Schools, and immediately engaged the expertise of law enforcement. The Lucas County sheriff’s department led the investigation and a juvenile has been taken into custody for further investigation.

Springfield’s board of education, leaders and partners thank students, staff and the Lucas County sheriff and Holland Police Department for their thorough investigation and immediate actions that brought the threat to a quick and safe resolution.

Matt Geha,

Superintendent
