Springfield Middle School News

We are pleased that musicians from our Springfield music department have been invited to perform in the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) District 1 middle school honor band and choir festival. These students prepared an audition and were chosen out of more than 200 middle school students from the surrounding school districts.

Representing the Springfield Middle School choirs are eighth graders Grace Horner and Sydney Young, and seventh grader Serenity Gregory. The choir will be conducted by Carolyn Gross of the Grosse Pointe, Michigan, public school district and founding artistic director and conductor for the community choir, One Voice, in the Detroit metropolitan area.

Springfield’s band students include seventh grader Alexandra Daney and eighth graders Ethan Hamms, Ava Holmes, Jacob Sell and first alternate Carson Andrews. The band will be directed by Detroit native Damien Crutcher. Damien is the cofounder and CEO of Crescendo Detroit, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to transform the lives of school children by engaging them in music and art programs.

Performing along with the choir and band will be an orchestra ensemble composed of other local middle school students.

The free performance will be held on Sunday, January 30, at 2:30 p.m., at the Stranahan Theater.

Congratulations to all of the SMS musicians who were invited to perform in this competitive honor band and choir festival. Please consider coming to support our amazing students.
