Gathering of Quilters group sets 2022 meeting dates

The Gathering of Quilters has established meeting dates through May 2022.

The organization, which promotes the art and craft of quilt making, conducts meetings at 7 p.m., on the third Thursday of each month, September through May at Holland Free Methodist Church, 6605 Angola Road, Holland.

The schedule is:

•January 20–Yessant Habetz of Saline, Michigan, will speak about featherweight sewing machines. These vintage machines have captured the hearts of generations of quilters and crafters around the world. Ms. Habetz has 71 followers on Pinterest and describes herself as a textile junkie who loves to quilt, applique, embroider and play with fabric.

•February 17–Edie Dyke-Conley will speak about the “Effect Of Quilting on American Culture.” She formerly served as president of the National Quilting Association and organized the bicentennial quilt project. She also is a National Quilt Association certified quilt judge.

•March 17–Penny Haren, an Ohio-based nationally known quilter, consultant, author and teacher will be the featured speaker.

She has developed Square It UP and Fussy Cut rulers for Creative Grid that help save time. She will discuss creative grid rulers and how they can make a quilter’s life easier. Ms. Haren has been featured in American Patchwork and Quilting and the Love of Quilting magazines.

April 21–Margie Stone will present “Textiles and Fabric from Foreign Places.” She will share stories and show numerous textiles, fabrics and scarves that she has collected during a 20-year foreign service career working for Ecuador, Greece, Italy and India.

•May 19– Carole Carroll will discuss “Miracle Quilts” for wounded troops. She is the coordinator of the group, a division of Desert Angels founded in March 2009. She will talk about their history and purpose as a way to thank injured and hospitalized troops for their service to the country.

The quilters’ annual dues are $25, and the guest fee is $5 per month.
