Is It Too Soon?
In the February edition of the district’s electronic newsletter, I included the 2022-23 district calendar that was approved at the January 26 board of education meeting. I promised in the comments that were included, that many more details and specifics will be shared in the days that follow–especially for families with elementary school-aged students. While this may seem a bit early, I want to continue to provide information and details to keep the district both moving forward and in the right direction.
It is important to remember that the configuration of our elementary schools is changing with the start of the 2022-23 school year. The rationale and the projected timeline for the reconfiguration of the schools have been frequent topics in this column, our newsletters and during my monthly reports to the board of education. Those seeking information also can find this and much more information on the district’s website (springfield-schools.org/elementary-reconfigura tion-80a5f8fc). Included on the site are the boundaries for Crissey, Dorr and Holloway attendance areas. Parents and guardians of currently enrolled students in grades kindergarten through second grade have already received an email from the district confirming which school their students will attend beginning in fall 2022. The tentative school start times also have been announced. Those are:
Crissey, Dorr, Holloway: kindergarten through third grade students will attend school between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Holland and Springfield Middle School: students will attend school between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Springfield High School: students will attend school between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Also in the newsletter was a link for details on Springfield’s Elementary Jumpstart Days (/drive.google.com/file/d/1wGLz1gi5lRQttoA13dODgvT-ekbdleBd/view?usp=sharing). Principals will be communicating more information and are available to discuss with families any details of the reconfiguration.
Coming up in the spring 2022, our building principals and I will conduct informational meetings at each school building to provide further details and clarification, as well as address any concerns; pre-kindergarten morning and afternoon schedules will be announced at a later time. Also planned for April/May are the announcements of the current faculty building assignments. By the end of the school year, current faculty grade assignments will be shared, although student class lists will not be available until the usual time–in August, right before the start of the school year.
Make no mistake, I am not overlooking all we still have to accomplish within the 2021-22 school year. There is much to be proud of and much to do before the end of May. I don’t think it’s too early to look forward to all that we will accomplish–together. Do you?
