The Lucas County commissioners are partnering with the Toledo Walleye to promote vaccines for a safe and healthy Lucas County.
Beginning with the February 12 game against the Atlanta Gladiators, fans who attend Toledo Walleye home games in the Huntington Center and participate in the free, on-site vaccine clinic will have the opportunity to win Walleye merchandise, gift cards or game tickets.
“This is a smart and effective way for us to use our federal relief dollars to promote public health and get more shots in arms. We know that vaccinations are the vital piece of the puzzle we need to defeat COVID-19 once and for all,” said Gary Byers, president of the board. “Every step we take to increase our vaccination rate is a step toward ending the pandemic, and this is one of those steps.”
“Getting vaccinated will protect you, your family and your friends and keep Lucas County safe and healthy. This program makes it convenient. Now you can watch your favorite hockey team, take a minute to get vaccinated, and earn prizes all in one night,” Commissioner Tina Skeldon Wozniak added.
The commissioners allocated $1,000 per game to fund the incentives, for a total of up to $33,000 during this Toledo Walleye season. Funding for the program is through the federal American Rescue Plan Act. The vaccine clinic is near section 105 at the Huntington Center.
