The Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District is accepting orders for the annual tree, shrub, and garden sale now through Friday, March 25.
To place an order, complete the order form in the spring newsletter and then mail or return with payment to the Maumee office, 130-A West Dudley Street. Residents also may place an order online through website, lswcd-tree.square.site.
This year’s sale offers several hardwoods including American sycamore, tupelo black gum, and eastern redbud as well as flowering shrubs like sweet shrub and snowberry. Four varieties of conifers are available. There also are packets such as backyard habitat, fruit tree, and native seed which contains seeds collected locally from the Oak Openings Region.
“Each year, the Lucas SWCD offers a unique selection of native and habitat trees, shrubs, and plants to promote conservation in the landscape,” said Jamie Kochensparger, the Lucas SWCD educator and outreach director. She selects the species offered each spring and works with nurseries on availability.
“These plants are offered at a low cost to encourage residents to help wildlife, provide soil and water benefits, and improve their properties.”
Whether it is replacing turf grass with native plants or planting a 100-foot long windbreak on a farm, the Lucas SWCD is proud to offer the trees and planting/maintenance information to area residents to be successful, she added.
All orders must be picked up at the Lucas County Fairgrounds on April 13 or April 14 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Delivery is not an option.
