Springfield BOE acts on personnel matters

At the February 9 meeting, the Springfield Board of Education took action on a number of personnel matters.

The board issued a change of assignment for John Crowner from middle school science teacher to interim dean of students, effective February 7. They also accepted the res

They also accepted the resignation retirement of Dorianne Cox, as of February 19, and the resignation of Mitchell LeStrange, effective March 18.

Two substitute teachers were hired. They are Amanda Ehrhardt and Samantha Habusta.

Additionally, the school board issued one-year contracts to KyJuan Grace, SHS hallway/security monitor, and Alan Katafiasz, 4 hour SHS food service with additional cleaning duties, both effective February 14.

Several personal service contracts were awarded to Brandi Archer, choreographer, SHS drama club; Amy Gelsone, solo and ensemble, accompanist, SHS choir, and Leah Schwan, vocal director SHS drama club.

The board approved pupil activity permits for Kimberly Bryson, SHS softball junior varsity coach; Chris Burns, SHS baseball junior varsity coach; Michael Campbell, SHS girls track head coach; Rob Gwozdz, SHS softball head coach; James Howe, SHS track assistant coach and Chris Mendieta, SHS baseball freshman coach.

Other Business

In other business, the school board:

•Announced that wearing of masks in school buildings will be optional at the beginning of the third trimester, February 24. Masks are still required by federal mandate for students riding school buses.

•Approved a College Credit Plus contract with Lourdes University.

•Authorized a salary increase for student workers from $8.80 per hour to $9.30 in accordance with the January 1 Ohio minimum wage increase.

•Accepted a donation of school and office supplies from Denis Poirier Jr. of Eaton Office Supply.

•Approved job descriptions for English language learner tutor and family engagement coordinator.

•Approved a professional development meeting request for Kristine Walter to attend a virtual science of reading course sponsored by Big Dippers.

The next board of education meeting will be at 4 p.m., Wednesday, February 23, in the board meeting room of the administration building, 6900 Hall Street, and is open to the public. ~Jane Maiolo
