Bald Eagle
Nature’s Nursery admits over 3,700 sick, injured and orphaned wild animals each year. While each animal that comes in is important to our local ecosystem and habitats, some animals arrive with added prominence and significance. This bald eagle was admitted in February and happened to be banded. The band identified the bird as being Ohio born in 1995, making it 27 years old. The average lifespan of a bald eagle is 20 years. The advanced age of the eagle, along with its very serious wing injury, indicates that it is not likely to be releasable. Nature’s Nursery will continue to care for the eagle and is working with the Toledo Zoo to, hopefully, provide a place for it to live out its remaining years.
