Kilburn Road project awarded

Construction of a roundabout at Kilburn and Brint roads will move forward with award of a contract.

At the March 15 meeting, the Lucas County commissioners accepted a bid submitted by E.R. Zeiler Excavating of Temperance, Michigan, for $969,102. The firm submitted the lowest of three bids.

The commissioners also awarded the Kilburn Road resurfacing and shoulder improvement project to Helms and Sons Excavating of Findlay for $1,140,596.

Money for both projects will come from license plate fees and gas taxes.

In another roundabout project, the board approved the purchase of property at Sylvania Avenue and Kilburn from Margaret Warns at a cost of $25,990.

Other Business

In other business, the commissioners:

•Accepted a Primary 2022 grant from the Ohio Secretary of State for $252,803, which will be used to assist the board of elections with the primary election.

•Contracted with the cities of Oregon and Toledo, and Sylvania Township for Canine Care and Control services at a base price of $2,500 plus a per call for service charge.

•Rejected bids on proposals to provide case management software for the general division of the common pleas courts and prosecutor’s office.

•Accepted a grant award for the Violence Against Women response team program administered by the prosecutor’s office. The $60,000 grant with a $20,000 match is for the 2022 calendar year.

•Approved an amended agreement extending the original one until June 30. The agreement is between MacArthur Safety and Justice Challenge Community Grant and the following: Above and Beyond Care Behavioral Health, African American Police League, All In Academy, Believe Center, City Park League, Frederick Douglass Center Association, Madd Poets Society, Pathway Inc., Salem Lutheran Church and Stand Up-Man Up.

•Authorized adult and juvenile drug courts to accept funding from the Mental Health and Recovery Services board’s medication-assisted program for specialized dockets. The funding will be disseminated as follows, adult drug court, $150,999; administrative funds, $5,594; family drug court, $105,930, and family drug court administrative, $5,594.

•Agreed to seek bids for the window replacement project at 701 Adams Street. The commissioners estimate the project will cost $2.85 million.

•Amended an agreement with children services for Kinship Caregiver Services for an additional $42,019. The funds will be used to assist individuals in need.

•Approved agreements between the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo and the Lucas County juvenile court art programming for youth in the Community Treatment Center, probation court involved youth and youth in the Youth Treatment Center.

•Purchased UF disinfection equipment from Trojan UV of London, Ontario, Canada at a cost not to exceed $138,843.

•Reappointed county engineer Mike Pniewski to the Toledo-Lucas County Plan Commission for a three-year term, expiring March 31, 2025.

•Authorized a simple loan agreement for Evan and Kayla Veler, 3342 Cason Avenue. The 10-year loan is for a water supply line.
