Penta fire and criminal justice students remember sacrifice of first responders on September 11

The national tragedy of September 11, 2001, was remembered at Penta Career Center by students and staff in the criminal justice and firefighter programs. The ceremony took place outside Penta’s main entrance near the flag pole and featured the national anthem, student remarks, a student read poem and an honor guard flag tribute.

Kyle O’Connell, a Penta student in the firefighter program, served as the emcee and student speaker.

Emily Holtz, a student in the criminal justice program, read a poem by James Madara called “9-11-01.”

VFW Walbridge Post 9963 conducted a 21-gun salute and the City of Maumee and Pemberville fire departments displayed the American flag between their ladder trucks.

Colby Carroll, Haskins chief of police and staff sergeant with the Ohio Army National Guard, was the guest speaker.

Hannah Musgrave, a student in the firefighter program, and Jordan Naugle from the construction remodeling program, performed “Taps” with their trumpets.

All students participating in the ceremony are members of SkillsUSA, a student leadership organization.

This was Penta’s 15th year of organizing a Patriot Day ceremony for students and staff.

The event was aired live to all classrooms inside the school building courtesy of students in the digital video production program.
