We know most are aware that before the end of the last school year, the district performed a significant upgrade of our website. Our goal, which will never deviate from transparency, also was to provide ease of access to the tremendous amount of information that is requested about the district. We invite anyone to enter springfield-schools. org into your search screen and get ready–you will be impressed (and we hope not overwhelmed) by what you will find. The why and how this was done is less important than is the where and what. So, this week, let me discuss those two important elements to your access to everything you’d like to know about Springfield Local Schools. I have chosen to address the where and what at the same time, because these two elements are closely interwoven. Most seeking information will arrive on the district’s homepage. From there, guests will notice a menu bar that offers a variety of dropdown menus under the headers of: *District Information, *Departments, *Schools, *Enrollment, *Employment, *Calendars, *Staff Listing and *Community. Each of these sections is then organized with specific pages and additional drop-down menus that are packed with the most current information that we have to offer. Within those areas we believe that anyone can find what they’re seeking. Our team worked hard to organize the information in a format that makes sense. Sure, there may be a few specifics, usually on the building level, that may not be as easily found as we hope. However, the great thing about live sites is that they are all “works-inprogress,” and we promise that even these aspects will get better and better as everyone becomes more familiar with the website.
In today’s world of searching for information on our mobile devices, it was critical to us that the site be both compatible with most devices and easy to navigate. The challenge is always to provide thorough information, yet do so as concisely as possible.
Sometimes this is easier said than done, which is why our administrators are constantly updating the information and links that are offered on the site, especially within the district and school calendars, individual department and school pages, and beyond.
