Girls soccer team hosts teacher appreciation night

On Monday, September 26, the Springfield girls soccer team hosted its first teacher appreciation night. The team was honored and thrilled to recognize some truly incredible people who work so hard to make sure our students have a great learning experience inside and outside the classroom. Each player was asked, “Who has made a difference in your education at Springfield?” Coach Mortemore and parent Bridgette Winslow worked hard behind the scenes to coordinate the presentation, and players invited their special mentors to attend. Prior to the introduction ceremonies, Coach Mortemore met with the teachers to share the desire shared by both he and his team for the impact that is made on their lives by educators and how their presence in and out of the classroom has created a very special culture at the high school.

As they were introduced, guest PA announcer (and athletic director) Andrew Screptock read special thank you comments written by the seniors to their teachers.

Those honored were: Sam Arredondo, by seniors Morgan Amick and Paige Koback; Dorianne Cox, by senior Riley Caywood; Karrie Jiminez, by senior Elise Dodson; Kyle Linehan, by senior Veronica Florek, and Marty Perlaky, by senior Chloe Meyette.

Other members of the team with their honorees are: Rian Caywood and Amy Fleming, Josie Cline and Devin Aller, Grace Coduto and Maggie Christie, Abby Costell and Cory Fritch, Emily Cox and Travis Pennell, Macie De Raedt and Susan Hanna, Maggie Evans and Chris Young, Cali Garrow and Sean Enck, Faythe Hamilton and Julie Zaper, Ella Jordan and Melissa Hirzel, Jylien Siebert and Shannon Brazzil, Kalaia Taylor and Amy Flemming, Leah Winslow and Jamie Schwieterman, and Kaelee Ziehr and Tim Altman.

Significant is the fact that many of the teachers chosen were from elementary, intermediate and/or middle grades. The student athletes wanted their mentors to be aware that the time taken during the earlier grades was meaningful.
