Trick or treat night has been scheduled for Monday, October 31, from 6 to 8 p.m., in Springfield Township and the Village of Holland.
Extra police and fire personnel will be on patrol throughout the evening.
Safety officers provided the following tips:
•Make sure masks and costumes are created from flame-retardant material.
•Costumes should be light in color and trimmed with reflective or fluorescent tape.
•Trick-or-treaters should carry a flashlight to see and be seen by passing motorists.
•Smaller children should always be accompanied by an adult.
•Use sidewalks and avoid walking in the streets.
•Children should only trick or treat at houses where residents have outside lights on as a sign of welcome. They should not enter homes or apartments unless accompanied by an adult.
•Children should not eat any treats before they return home. Parents should examine all treats carefully before they are eaten.
