Springfield Township Fire Dept. recognizes fallen firefighters

On October 15, the Springfield Township Fire Department gathered at the McCord Road Fire Station alongside trustees, family and friends to honor those deceased firefighting personnel who served the township. This year featured one addition to the memorial. Catherine Schardt, a longstanding dispatcher passed away this past year.

Fire Chief Barry Cousino noted that the men and women of the fire department face many “inherent dangers as public safety responders including physical threats, cancer, biological dangers and mental health concerns.”

He added, “The purpose of this memorial is to honor those who have served our community selflessly as firefighters through the years.”

The ceremony concluded with the laying of the wreath at the memorial above, and the sounding of the last bell in recognition of deceased members. Top, members of the fire department and Springfield JROTC pay tribute to firefighters.
