To the Holland-Springfield community:

As duly elected trustees of Springfield Township, we are sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the State of Ohio and to faithfully discharge the duties of the office of trustee in Springfield Township.

With the recent passage of Issue 5 Police Levy in May, we now take a front stage presence to protect the lives of our constituents and to help make our township a safer and secure place to live.

Unfortunately, exposure to crime increased, where in January 2022, four justices of the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that Ohio’s judges could no longer consider public safety when setting an amount of bail, including for dangerous and violent offenders.

Dangerous and violent offenders now have a better chance to be caught and released.

As trustees, we support Issue 1 which would reverse this dangerous decision and protect public safety. Additionally, Issue 1 will enhance the safety of all Ohio communities by giving judges the clear and unambiguous right to apply public safety as one of the criteria for setting bail.

As the board of trustees for Springfield Township, we are endorsing Issue 1 on this November’s ballot and encourage voters to consider safety and security when casting their ballot. Robert Bethel, chair Tom Anderson Jr. and Andrew Glenn, trustees
