The second annual Happy Holland Days at Strawberry Acres Park took place December 3. Hundreds of area residents turned out for family activities, entertainment, food, visits with mascots, and, of course, a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The event concluded with a performance by the SHS brass ensemble, which led visitors to the Christmas tree where Holland Mayor Lee Irons, with help from youngsters, threw the switch to light the tree. Donated last year by Walker Funeral Homes and the Whitehouse Tree Farm, the tree replaces one at the corner of McCord and Angola roads, which due to its proximity to power lines, can no longer be used. Walker also donated this year’s cookies and milk for youngsters to enjoy while waiting for Santa to arrive. Clockwise from top left: carolers from Holland Free Methodist Church sang Christmas songs in the lodge foyer as visitors arrived; members of Compelled Church led arts and craft activities in the lodge; Santa and Mrs. Claus hold the Siddig twins, 8-month-olds dressed as unicorns; Aria Walton,1, loves using a lighted headband as her own necklace, and Brielle Guthrie, 5, enjoys her holiday face painting design being applied by Penta cosmetology student Erica Sniegowski of Springfield Schools.
