SLS educator named outstanding teacher

At the December 14 meeting, the Springfield board of education commended instructor Marty Perlaky for being named the 2022 Outstanding Biology Teacher for Ohio. The award was announced at NABT’s Professional Development conference in Indianapolis in July, and was formally presented to Mr. Perlaky at the board meeting.

Created in 1962, the award is one of NABT’s most prestigious awards and assists the organization in identifying the best biology and life science teachers in each of the 50 states, Washington, D.C., the Canadian provinces, Puerto Rico and overseas territories.

National Board Member Kevin English, a teacher at Perrysburg High School, described Mr. Perlaky’s impact on the sciences and the students and colleagues who benefit from his professionalism, intelligence and commitment to enhancing the teaching practice.

Mr. Perlaky was presented framed certificates along with a complimentary one-year NABT membership, gift certificate from Carolina Biological Supply Company and other items from award contributors. In a letter informing him of his selection, Jaclyn Reeves-Pepin, executive director, wrote, “To be recognized by your professional colleagues is a high honor, and we welcome you to the ranks of some of the most distinguished teachers in the biological and life sciences.”
