Canine Care and Control to launch ‘Dogs On The Town’ program

Lucas County Canine Care and Control’s (LC4) Dogs on the Town (DOTT) program is being expanded to allow individuals to take dogs from the care center on day-trip adventures into the community.

The DOTT program was started several years ago to allow approved LC4 volunteers to take dogs on outings that last a few hours or all day, and could include a hike in an area metropark, a nap at a participant’s home or shopping at a local pet store or dogfriendly business. Time outside of the shelter environment helps to reduce dogs’ stress, provides enrichment and increased visibility for adoptable pets.

Beginning on February 1, non-volunteers are now able to have that same experience and can be matched with LC4 adoptable dogs to explore the 4-1-9 area.

Participants are asked to register at signupgenius. com/go/9040848AAAC2EA0 F85-snout2. On the day of their field trip, they will be given business cards for their dog in case they meet a potential new family.

Dogs will also get a harness with “adopt me” on it, bringing visibility to the dog that is with them.

Individuals interested in the becoming a DOTT program participant, must be 18 years of age or older.
