SCHOOL NEWS
From the Desk of Principal Andy Evans Thank you to the nearly 200 fifth grade VIPs who attended our event on Friday. Between the two events, we had about 350 make it to the special event. Special thanks to Farah Wolfe, and the other members of Holland Parents Club, for making the event a success. Also, thank you to the generous donations for the families of the Hidden Cedars fire. We collected $800 dollars worth of cash and gift cards.

Gamers of the Week
Each week our teams nominate one student as their gamer of the week. The category they are being selected for is acceptance.
Fourth grade teams: Sonic Racing, Paige; Animal Crossing, Lauren, and Marvel-ous, Rylee.
Fifth grade: Team Legend, Elsie; Pac Peeps, Julian; Minecraft, Wesley, and Team Splatoon, Mason.
Berry/Klena: Ronin and Amara.
Non-bus Riders We are now releasing the non-bus riders before the bus riders. This will be approximately 2:13 p.m. The only real difference is that parents parked in the football lot will need to walk up to the building a few minutes earlier. So far, we have been able to speed up the dismissal process.
Restroom Issues
Recently, I visited classrooms again to discuss issues in the restroom. This has been an ongoing issue all year, and we continue to try new ways to monitor the situation. The fifth grade boys restrooms are seeing the worst of the issues, which include vandalism to walls.
As a staff, we have been very proactive with visiting the classrooms and having these discussions. We have instituted some various rules about time of use and adult supervision. Personally, I don’t like making so many rules, but it is clear that we have students with bad intentions. If a student is caught intentionally doing things to the restrooms, then strong consequences will be considered. Please have these discussions with your child about being respectful to property. Thank you.
Important Message from Transportation Department As many of you are likely aware, Springfield Schools, like the rest of the nation, is short staffed in the transportation department. Currently, we find ourselves with an even greater temporary shortage of drivers. Our entire transportation department, as well as staff from other departments are being called upon to drive routes. We’re also combining routes and getting very creative on how we schedule personnel to avoid cancelling routes altogether as neighboring districts are having to do. Here are some things we are asking of parents to assist us in being as efficient as possible during this shortage:
•Please be advised that this can cause greater variance in pick-up and drop offs than normal, so please help us by having your student at their stop earlier (an additional five to 10 minutes) than usual.
•Also, if a stop is missed, please call the building to report this in order to receive a faster response time.
•Additionally, following up that call with an email to scottbrooker@springfieldschools. org and heatherhawk @springfield-schools.org will help us to investigate the problem and get it resolved for the future with much more efficiency.
•Finally, if you know anyone who has or wants to get their CDL and bus driver endorsement, we are happy to meet with them and help get them started.
We sincerely appreciate your assistance and understanding of this situation.
