Members of the Springfield Township Fire Department, along with the board of trustees, bid a fond farewell to one of their finest, long-time firefighters, James Schill.
At the March 6 meeting, the trustees approved a proclamation recognizing Mr. Schill for 27 years of service to the township.
Fire Chief Barry Cousino noted Mr. Schill began as a volunteer firefighter in 1996 and was hired full time in 2005. “Firefighter Schill served as a rescue diver in the U.S. Coast Guard, acquiring special skills he was able to utilize while working with our department,” he said.
“He has been involved in teaching numerous firefighters in firefighting tactics and has mentored and developed several firefighters over his career,” the fire chief continued. “Through his different roles and responsibilities, he has been instrumental in the protection of our community and personally responsible for saving countless lives over his career.”
The trustees expressed their appreciation to Mr. Schill for his years of service and congratulated him on a “well-earned retirement.”
“I’m going to miss everybody,” said an emotional Mr. Schill, and he thanked the trustees for allowing him to serve for 27 years.
