Christ Child Society launches hygiene project

The Christ Child Society of Toledo is launching a new hygiene project. Developed over the past three months, this project will provide personal hygiene products to students in grades 4 through 8 at CCS Partners in Learning elementary schools: Gesu, Queen of Apostles, Hope Learning Academy, Rosary Cathedral and St. Patrick of Heatherdowns.

Each kit will contain a tooth brush, toothpaste, dental floss, deodorant, bath soap, shampoo, lip balm, pocket pack of tissues, small pack of band aids and a shower loofah. Each student also will receive a drawstring backpack containing the products.

The schools will receive a supply of replacement products that students can request as needed. Each school also will be supplied with femine hygiene products that will be available to female students.

CCS Toledo became aware of the need for these products after speaking with school secretaries and school nurses. Most of the items are not covered by the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

In addition, the governmental financial assistance programs instituted during the COVID-19 pandemic have ended, leaving many families unable to stretch their budgets to cover the current high cost of food, let alone hygiene products.

CCS members will fill backpacks and pack hygiene kits at 10 a.m., Monday, March 20, at First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, 200 East Broadway Street, Maumee, for distribution to the schools.
