The Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District (Lucas SWCD) is accepting orders for the annual tree, shrub and garden sale through Friday, March 31.
Orders can be placed online at Lswcdtree.square.site (credit card only) or at their office, 3350 Hill Avenue Suite K, Toledo, during business hours where payment can be made by cash, check or credit card.
This year’s sale offers tree species including tulip poplar, concolor fir, green rocket hybrid arborvitae, as well as flowering shrubs like ninebark and buttonbush. Also available are a backyard habitat packet and a fruit and berries packet, both of which contain shrubs and small trees that are beautiful and provide habitat benefits for wildlife.
Each year, the Lucas SWCD offers a unique selection of native and habitat trees, shrubs and plants to promote conservation in the landscape. These plants are offered at a low cost to encourage residents to help wildlife, provide soil and water benefits and improve their properties.
Whether it is replacing turf grass with native plants or planting a 100-foot-long windbreak on a farm, the Lucas SWCD is proud to offer the trees and planting/maintenance information to area residents in order to be successful.
Also available for preorder this spring are four different cover crop mixes for unused garden space or barren soil. Cover crops add living material to a garden, providing benefits like soil stabilization, water infiltration, nutrient cycling and more. Order cover crops at LucasSWCD.org/cover crops.
Both cover crop and tree sale orders must be picked up at the Lucas County Fairgrounds on April 18 or 19, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Delivery is not an option.
