At the June 14 meeting, the Springfield board of education took action on a number of personnel matters in preparation for the 2023-24 school year.
Seven new instructors were hired. They are Ashley Deuschle, high school art; Madalyn Dudek, middle school intervention specialist; Emily Durham, SHS English; Jasmin Fletcher, SHS school counselor,; Nancy Fortner, Crissey intervention specialist; Christine Jones, SHS school counselor, and Janette, Nickey, SMS science.
Changes in education were authorized for Michael Clark, SMS English language arts to SMS technology, and Jamie Lenox, SMS sixth grade science to eighth grade science.

Superintendent Matt Geha noted that Ms. Reitz has been with the district for 16 years and is leaving to enter the private sector. “But she will remain on as our volleyball coach,” he said.
A number of supplemental contracts were approved for certified employees. Other Business
In other business, the board of education:
•Set the 2023-24 fiscal year temporary appropriations at $25.32 million.
•Approved five construction orders totaling $107,483 for the new district building at 6924 Spring Valley Drive.
•Accepted a memorandum of option for transmission line easement by Toledo Edison Company and American transmission System. The district will receive $32,250 which will be deposited into the permanent improvement fund.
•Authorized the expenditure of $8,582 to Severn Intermediate Holdings for the Power School statistical management software.
•Approved the substitute teacher pay scale for 2023-24 at one to 29 days–$125 per day, $62.50 for half days; 30 to 59–days $135, $67.50 for half days, and 60 or more days–$230.80, $115.40 for half days.
•Adjusted the casual labor pay scale increasing casual labor by $2.15 per hour and security by $3.75.
•Authorized the treasurer to seek tax advances from the county auditors on monies as they become available.
•Agreed to a memorandum of understanding with the Ohio Association of Public School Employees Local 478 for the reimbursement of winter jackets.
•Approved the athletic training services agreement with ProMedica central physicians. They will provide services for three years at no cost to the district, Mr. Geha said.
•Authorized payment in lieu of transportation for a student attending Central Catholic High School this fall.
•Approved student handbooks for Holland Intermediate, SMS and SHS.
•Authorized stipends for: Jenni Lenart, and resident educators Kristen Stanfill and Hallie Wright-Comes, $133.34.
Stipends of $400 were approved for resident educators Erin Brock, Michelle Bryan, Katie Bylow, Michael Clark, Sheila Dempsey, Kim Hohlbein, Jenni King, Matt Kistner, Brad Konrad, Chad Krukemyer, Stephanie Mahoney, Jennifer Mercer, Jen Mercer, Theo Middleton, Marty Pauken, Annette Reidel, Nichol Riston, Stephanie Saunders, Ainsley Schwartz, Kristen Stanfill Lisa Stirn, Jerry Stirn and Kristine Walters.
Resident educator stipends of $800 were approved for Angela Bechstein, Barb Eckhart, Kelly Kahmann, Jenni Lenart, Marty Perlaky, Chris Youngand Heather Zuccarell.
Resident Educator stipends of $1,200 were awarded to Barb Eckhart, Diane Gajewski, Kelly Kahmann, Jennifer Mercer, Noel Pendry, McKenna Reitz, Kim Simon and Chris Young.
•Approved three requests to attend professional development days. The next school board meeting will be at 9 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, in the board meeting room of the administration building, 6900 Hall Street, Holland, and is open to the public.
