Penta BOE acts on personnel matters for 2023-24 year

In preparation for the beginning of the 2023-24 school year, the Penta Career Center board of education approved a number of personnel matters at the August 9 meeting.

The board employed two support personnel. They are Sheri Bunting, job coach, and Patrick Waltenburg, student worker, $12.30 per hour.

The board also hired a number of substitute job coaches at an hourly pay rate of $16.18.

They are Marsha Berger, Merl Creps, Robert Heckman, Dianna Hillabrand, Margaret Orzechowski and Myranda Welch.

The board approved employment of eight certificated personnel.

They are Janice Borger, math; Samantha Cooper, substitute school nurse; Kaitlyn Ewing, social studies; Diane Neumann, adult education, Aspire; Eric Parker, math; Sandra Reynolds, English, and Continued from page 1 Kelly Robb and William Shaffer, adult education, part time, $32 per hour.

Kevin Heintschel also was granted five extended service days.

A retirement resignation was accepted from Laurie Fouts, math, retroactive to June 1.

In addition, five employees submitted resignations– Rebecca Lee, intervention specialist, effective July 6; Teresa Nissen, teaching professions, December 31; Patricia Senerius, Aspire, August 21; Mindy Vascik, job coach, July 21, and Emma Vierheller, math, July 2.

Other Business

In other business, the school board:

•Authorized Treasurer Mike Harrigan to advertise interior demolition at 1205 Corporate Drive, Holland.

The demolition is being performed to prepare the building for renovations.

In a related matter, the board entered into agreements with Kleinfelder Architecture, Inc. to provide master planning, design and related construction administration services for space and analysis portion of the project at a cost of $103,640; for the Corporate Drive renovation portion of the project at a cost not to exceed $211,475, and the cosmetology lab renovations, $136,700.

Penta is working with the architecture firm for services to advance the career center's master plan for capital improvements.

The company will conduct a space and program analysis to guide the district in identifying areas that need to be improved, enhanced and/or added.

Their services will be used for the on-campus cosmetology lab renovations, the renovation of the recently acquired Corporate Drive location and other aspects of the master plan project.

•Approved the fall placement of student teacher/ intern Kyla McCoy, a Bowling Green State University student majoring in agricultural education.

•Presented for the board’s 30-day review a course of study for medical technologies.

•Approved seven requests to attend professional meetings.

The next school board meeting will be at 5:15 p.m., Wednesday, September 13, in the board meeting room of the career center, 9301 Buck Road, Perrysburg Township, and is open to the public.
