The First Thursday luncheon series, “Culture at the Crossroads,” will return for its sixth season on October 5, at Monroe Street United Methodist Church, 3613 Monroe Street.
Dr. Johnathon Ross will speak on the need for a program of universal health care. He is a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences, and practices and teaches general internal medicine. His experience inside the health insurance industry convinced him of the need for a national health insurance program.
At each luncheon, food will be served at noon, followed by the presentation and a question and answer period. Reservations for the luncheons will not be required.
The cost for the lunch and presentation will remain at $15, payable via cash or check at the door. Vegetarians and vegans may bring their own lunches for the cost of $5 for the presentation only. Parking is available behind the church.
The gatherings are held on the first Thursdays through April with the exception of December. This year’s talks will address climate change, mental illness, the state of newspapers and investigative journalism, and more.
The series is organized by Monroe Street United Methodist Church, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, First Unitarian Church and local Catholic and other social justice advocates.
