Toledo Helps Ukraine will host a showing of the award-winning documentary film, “20 Days in Mariupol,” on Saturday, November 11, at 7 p.m., at the Maumee Indoor Theater, 601 Conant Street.
After nearly a decade covering international conflicts, for the Associated Press, including the Russia-Ukraine war, “20 Days in Mariupol” is the first feature film by Pulitzer-Prize winning Ukrainian journalist Mstyslav Chernov. The 94minute film draws on Mr. Chernov’s daily news dispatches and personal footage of his own country at war. It offers accounts of civilians caught in the siege, as well as a window into what it’s like to report from a conflict zone and the impact of such journalism around the globe.
The documentary features a team of Ukrainian journalists trapped in the besieged city of Mariupol who struggle to continue their work documenting the Russian invasion. As the only international reporters who remain in the city, they capture what would later become defining images of the war: dying children, mass graves, the bombing of a maternity hospital and more.
Following the documentary, area Ukrainian refugees who were brought to the United States through the work of Toledo Helps Ukraine will answer questions about their lives in Ukraine, the journey to America and what life is like away from their native country and family members.
Food and beverages will be available to attendees. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $17 for VIP. Order online at checkout.square.site/buy/T CYD43VMA7HWUGDTA XWJX3ZV.
