St. Francis wins state water polo championship

The St. Francis de Sales School Aqua Knights water polo team defeated the Upper Arlington Golden Bears on October 29, to win the state title.

The Knights returned from a four-point deficit to beat the Bears, 9-8, at Upper Arlington’s home pool.

This is the 15th title for the water polo program, and the 29th team state championship title in school history.

The Knights were led by Head Coach Aaron Borgman and Assistant Coach Lance Bockbrader.

“We are so proud of our Aqua Knights bringing a state title back to Toledo,” said the Rev. Geoff Rose, OSFS.

“The Aqua Knights have a storied tradition, and today’s comeback game demonstrates again that St. Francis is the leader in northwest Ohio aquatics.”
