Museum sub exhibit open at Toledo Library

The National Museum of the Great Lakes is on the road with a new temporary banner exhibit hosted at the Toledo Lucas County Public Library. The display features submarine history on the Great Lakes at the library, 325 Michigan Street, Toledo.

Through December 31, individuals can visit the main library in downtown Toledo to take a walk through submarine history and its shared connection to the Great Lakes.

“Originally created for a summer afterhours event, we were searching for a way to have more individuals access to the exhibit,” said museum spokesperson Kate Fineske. “We reached out to Toledo Lucas County Public Library with the idea to partner by sharing it over Veterans Day and were excited to find space for it through the rest of the year.”

The banner exhibit dives through submarine and military history on the Great Lakes, including the first documented submarines, military shipbuilding, submarine construction and remembering the submarines and sailors lost.

It will begin its exhibition in the main atrium on the first floor of the library and then rotate through various other spots around the building.

The National Museum of the Great Lakes began actively seeking new ways to spread its mission outside the museum grounds in 2020. Since then, nearly a dozen partnerships have resulted including 2023 installations at Toledo Express Airport, onboard American Queen Voyages Cruise Ships, and at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.
