Local artists have applied their paint, pastels and pottery to highlight the wildest features of some of the education ambassadors for an upcoming art auction to raise funds for Nature’s Nursery.
The online auction will run for two weeks in February and includes everything from owls to opossums and even some art made by the animals as well.
In addition to rescuing and rehabbing more than 3,600 native wild animals each year, the center is home to more than 25 non-releasable animals that are utilized as education ambassadors. These animals are used in programs that reach approximately 20,000 people, in-person, each year.
“The education ambassadors really help to create a tangible educational lesson for children and adults to better understand the important role that wildlife plays in our life as humans,” said Allison Aey, executive director. “The ambassadors become a name and face for our mission, and people who follow what we do really become connected to their individual stories and personalities.”
The auction offers a variety of art, created by more than 20 local artists and includes paintings made by some of the animals.
“We sent photos of the animals to the artists and some came in to get a feel for them in person. It’s been really fun to see the different ways that the artist captured them in their work” said Ms. Aey.
The auction opens up online on February 4 and runs until February 18.
The auction is available at 32auctions.com/NNArtAuc tion. All funds raised will go to helping rescue and rehabilitate local wildlife.
