Metroparks board approves agreements that benefit Glass City, International parks

At a special meeting on February 12, the Metroparks Toledo board of commissioners approved a number of agreements that will benefit Glass City and International parks in Toledo.

The board entered into a development agreement with Toledo for the riverwalk project. The agreement calls for the two entities to “cooperate and collaborate with respect to land, infrastructure and economic issues” relating to the project.

One of those projects is International Park. The park commissioners approved the purchase of the park from the city for $1.

Holdings total 30.72 acres northwest of Boers-Boyers and 33.81 acres southeast of Boers-Boyers.

The park district plans to renovate the properties and operate the next phase of Glass City park on Toledo’s east side.

Park commissioners also authorized a lease agreement with the Toledo Rowing Foundation for the boathouse at 8 South Main Street, Toledo.

The foundation plans to use it for promotion and training of rowing, including without limitation, storage of rowing boats and trailers.

“Activation of the waterfront has been one of the main goals of the Glass City Riverwalk, and this lease will allow for the continuation of a wonderful existing use of the water,” said Jennifer Van Horn, chief of planning and capital project officer.

Additionally, the commissioners approved the purchase of 1030 Water Street from Toledo for $1.

Comprising 1.99 acres, the land will support development of the riverwalk in the Vistula neighborhood, explained Ms. Van Horn.

In a related matter, park commissioners entered into a joint cooperation agreement with Toledo Pickle LLC.

The company will develop and operate a family entertainment facility including pickleball and dining in the building at 1030 Water Street.

Terms of the agreement call for the park district to renovate the building to a white box state. Toledo Pickle will finish the building with pickleball and other entertainment features and operate the facility as a Metroparks concessionaire.
