Dinosaurs ‘hustle’ for a cause at Stone Oak

Although the weather proved uncooperative, it failed to stop the sixth eclipse event experience in Springfield Township. Throughout the winter and into early spring, the township offered a series of experiences designed to get area residents excited about the April 8 total solar eclipse.

Held March 30 at Stone Oak subdivision, the Total Eclipse of the…RUN, Moon Walk was canceled due to rain and cold temperatures. But the Prehistoric Hustle set for after the run went off as scheduled with 10 local celebrities and officials donning dinosaur costumes for the race and a chance to raise money for the charity of their choice.

There were two heats, and the winners of each advanced to the final race. Taking home top T-rex honors for their respective charities were first place–Chandler “Flintstone” Fitzgerald sponsored by Savage & Associates, Springfield Schools Foundation; second– “T-Tommysaurus” Anderson, T&J Excavating , St. Jude, and tying for third were Jim “Tricera-COP” Piotrowski, Village of Holland, Springfield Schools Foundation, and Dan “Cave Man” Smith, 13abc and White Family the Victory Center.

The overall winner received a $100 donation for his charity and a beautiful fire apple created by Matt Paskiet, owner of Firenation. Second place received a $75 donation and third, $50. In addition, the Lucas County sheriff’s department donated $500 to the Julie Roth Memorial Foundation.
