Penta students receive STRIVE scholarships

At Penta Career Center, nine seniors spent the 202324 year participating in the Students Taking a Renewed Interest in the Value of Education (STRIVE) program through a collaborative effort between the Perrysburg Rotary Club and Penta.

Their reward for successfully participating in the program were scholarships totaling $4,000 from the Rotary.

The recipients were recognized earlier in April at the career center, and again at the April 26 Rotary Club meeting, in which two of the students were able to attend.

Taryn Rodriguez, a Rossford High School senior enrolled in culinary arts, received a $400 scholarship.

This fall, she plans to attend University of Northwestern Ohio and major in business administration.

Autumn Estevanes, a Genoa High School senior who is enrolled in medical technologies at Penta, plans to attend Owens Community College.

She told Rotarians her plans are to become a registered nurse.

Both expressed appreciation to Rotarians for their support of the STRIVE scholarship program.

Other recipients of $500 scholarships were Destiny Krassow, criminal justice; Christina Trujillo, digital arts and design, and Ariel Wise, automotive collision repair.

Scholarships of $400 went to Kieara Smith, construction masonry; Chase Spafford, welding; Aalayah Vargas, cosmetology, a Springfield High School senior, and Natya Winston also of SHS, medical technologies.

STRIVE is a program of Rotary International which has been adopted by the Perrysburg Rotary Club. The mission is to provide educational assistance and encouragement to high school students with the goal of improving their grades, attitudes and attendance during their senior year.

Penta students attended monthly meetings with club members and participated in mentoring activities.

Since 2001, the Perrysburg Rotary Service Foundation has awarded 325 scholarships totaling more than $118,000 to Penta students through the program.
