The City of Toledo Parks and Youth Services is hosting three pop-up walking events as part of the 2024 Let’s Get Moving walking program.
The communitywide walks are designed to promote health and wellness and give participants a preview of the actual program starting on July 20 at Ottawa Park.
Reading for Literacy also will provide free books for kids at each pop-up. Returning participants and new guests are invited to join.
Pop-up walking days are:
•Tuesday, May 21, 6 to 8 p.m., at University Parks Trail. The group will meet at the Mc-Cord Road entrance for a walk around University Trail, ending at Wildwood Metroparks. May is Mental Health Month, and our “Ask the Expert” session with NAMI of Greater Toledo via Zoom offers a chance to interact with mental health experts. Learn about the correlation between walking and its impact on mental health.
• Tuesday, June 18, 6 to 8 p.m. is a scenic walk around Woodsdale Park. Enjoy “Ask the Expert” featuring information about health services. This event provides a chance to walk and learn more about maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The program is a low-impact walking initiative for the entire community. Participants can join 10 bi-weekly walks to earn incentives. Some events will also feature free health screenings, farmers’ markets and other resources.
Presented by parks and youth services in partnership with Mercy Health System, Area Office on Aging, the Toledo Lucas County Public Health Department, Zepf Center and Metroparks Toledo, Let’s Get Moving provides opportunities to connect with local organizations and enjoy the health benefits of walking.
