Put on those shoes and get ready to join the new Maumee Glow 5K Rec Race/Walk on July 11.
“Since this is the 45th year for the Maumee Rec Race, we decided it was time for a change. We’ve made this race/walk into a glow event on Friday night instead of Saturday morning,” said Malinda Ruble, executive director of the Maumee Senior Center. “We think this will be a lot of fun.”
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m., at Maumee High School, 1147 Saco Street, on a flat and fast course offering runners the chance to get an amazing time.
“And if running isn’t your thing, walkers are welcome also. Walkers can go as little or as far as they would like on the route,” Ruble said.
Registration is $25. Race day registration will open at 5:30 p.m. on July 11.
Online registration is available at runsignup.com and a service fee applies.
Awards will be given to runners both male/female overall, master (40-plus) and grand masters (50-plus) in the race. Every participant in the race or walk receives a free Chick-fil-A coupon, while supplies last.
In addition, there will be a most illuminated contest before the award ceremony. The top three places will receive a prize.
“This is a great opportunity for the Maumee Senior Center to do something fun for the community and, at the same time, the proceeds benefit programs and services for our seniors,” Ruble said. “It’s an inexpensive way to help seniors, get exercise and have fun all at the same time.”
Every dollar of the proceeds goes to support the Maumee Senior Center’s programs and services.
