Partners for Clean Streams (PCS) is hosting the 29th annual Clean Your Streams Day on Saturday, September 27. This is a volunteerbased watershed clean-up, where more than 600 local citizens will meet at several kickoff locations in the greater-Toledo area, then clean up over 50 sites around the region’s waterways, to remove and prevent more than 10,000 pounds of marine debris from entering Lake Erie.
From 8:30 to 9 a.m., PCS staff and partners will be giving Clean Your Streams Day orientation for volunteers at seven regional kickoff sites:
•Westwinds Metropark–9918 Geiser Road, Holland
•Side Cut Metropark–1025 West River Road, Maumee
•Woodlands Park–429 East Boundary Street, Perrysburg
•Monroe Street United Methodist Church– 3613 Monroe Street, Toledo
•Oregon Municipal Building–5330 Seaman Road, Oregon
•University of Toledo–2801 Bancroft Street, Toledo
•Glass City Metropark–1505 Front Street, Toledo Then, from 9 a.m. to noon, volunteers will go clean up waterway trash at sites along the Ottawa River, Ten Mile Creek, lower Maumee River, Swan Creek, Grassy Creek, eastern Lake Erie tributaries and more.
Following the clean-up, all volunteers are invited to an appreciation picnic starting at noon at the Lucas County Fairgrounds Arts and Crafts Building, where they’ll enjoy free food, raffles, partner outreach tables and some preliminary results from the Challenge Awards.
Additionally, this year PCS will be raffling off a brand-new Pelican Catch Classic 100 fishing kayak for one lucky volunteer to win. Tickets are $10, and can be purchased online at partnersforcleanstreams.org/donate/kayakraffle/ To learn more about Clean Your Streams Day and marine debris, go to https://partnersforcleanstreams. org/programs/clean-yourstreams- day/ Clean Your Streams Day is part of the International Coastal Cleanup through the Ocean Conservancy.
