The 11th annual Comm-UNITY Film Festival, presented by the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities, in partnership with FilmToledo, is set for Sunday, August 17.
This free, family-friendly event is open to people of all ages and abilities, from 1 to 5 p.m., at the Maumee Indoor Theater.
More than 20 individuals with developmental disabilities will be seeing their amateur films on the big screen for the first time. They will be competing for an award in seven different categories as selected by a panel of judges.

•Most creative The People’s Choice Award will be voted on in real time by the audience in the movie theater the day of the festival.
All movies in the festival are required to be no more than five minutes long. Most of the movies were shot on phones or tablets. Some individuals partnered with professional filmmakers in the area, who volunteered their time to help create the movies.
