The Toledo Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is investigating a two-vehicle minor-injury crash involving a school bus. The crash occurred August 21, at approximately 2:41 p.m., on Centennial Road near Hidden Forest Drive in Springfield Township.
The preliminary investigation revealed a Springfield Local School District bus, operated by Joseph. Garcia, 71, of Holland, had stopped on southbound Centennial Road to discharge students when it was struck in the rear by a Ford F-150, operated by Drew Mikolajczyk, 27, Toledo.
The school bus was stopped with its red lights activated and stop arm extended when it was struck. No students were exiting the bus at the time of the crash.
There were 35 students on the bus at the time of the incident, and one student sustained minor injuries. He was released to his parents at the scene. Mikolajczyk was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead and stopping for stopped school buses.
The OSHP was assisted at the scene by the Lucas County Sheriff's Office and the Springfield Local School District.
The motoring public is reminded that school is now back in session and to use caution when approaching school buses.
