Not to brag, but there are a lot of innovative teachers whose classrooms are found in and out of our building on Pilliod Road. They’ve been “bugging” me for a while (I couldn’t resist, sorry) to bring you in on how our students have been working with staff from the Toledo Zoo to explore the PRAIRIE (site PRAiries that InvigoRate Inquiry LEarning PRAIRIEs) that was planted a few years ago and is now being nurtured by our outstanding staff and teacher.

The zoo staff have led lessons out at the PRAIRIE, and when weather conditions prevent its use, in the classrooms. Here’s the big news– our second grade students recently tagged and released monarch butterflies, then found one of the tagged butterflies in the PRAIRIE a few days later. While this may not seem like a big deal to our readers, for the 7-year-old nature scientists it was huge.

Students and staff are thrilled to watch the PRAIRIE grow and change.
