A Springfield Local Schools board of education member submitted her resignation to the board.
At the January 24 meeting, Rachel Geiger delivered an emotional farewell to fellow board members.
“It is with very mixed emotions that I submit my resignation,” she said. “This decision has been prompted by an unexpected opportunity to serve as a Springfield Township trustee, a role for which I was sworn in on January 22.”
Mrs. Geiger expressed appreciation to her fellow board members. “I have witnessed the dedication and commitment of each member, and it has been a privilege to work alongside such esteemed individuals.”
She continued, “The friendships formed, the personal growth experienced and the collaborative efforts undertaken have truly enriched my life. While I am sad to be leaving this incredible team, I also am excited about the growth and opportunities that lie ahead.”
Mrs. Geiger said the departure will not mean an end to the partnership. “I am committed to maintaining a collaborative relationship with the district. I am enthusiastic about the prospect of continuing to work together See to ensure that Springfield Township remains a community where everyone desires to live, both for its township and the exceptional school district.”
In closing, she said, “I am confident that the board will continue to thrive and make decisions in the best interest of the students and the community.”
Board President Ev Harris said Mrs. Geiger will be missed. “Rachel has done an outstanding job for our board. She has given 110 percent of her time to Springfield,” he said, adding, “I’m confident she will do the same for the township.”
Superintendent Matt Geha also commended Mrs. Geiger for her service to Springfield. “You have been an incredible help to me, and I’d like to thank you as well.”
