Springfield BOE acts on personnel matters as new school year gets under way

The Springfield board of education took action on a number of personnel matters at the September 27 meeting.

The board awarded a classified contract to Kristin Brooks, centralized enrollment coordinator, effective October 9.

A change in hours was granted to Aundre Graham from 2.5 hour Holland to 2 hour Crissey recess monitor.

Student worker contracts were approved for Isaac Cook, Joycelynn Davis, Tori Dotson, Karlee Ellis, Lily Sherman and Sydney Young.

The board accepted resignations from a number of substitute teachers who did not return their intent-to-return contracts. They are Mariam Al-Abed, Anabel Alexander, Grace Cassidy, Teya Castillo, Eliza Evans, Devin Gant, Joseph Grau, Ryan Griesmer, Samantha Habusta, Jessica Holmes, Madeline Jaco, Bryant Koback, Korrin Kreuz, Amanda Parent, Shiloh Reynolds, Christine Ruiz, Gabriella Sasso, Leila Smidi, McKenzi Stanley and Sierra Tack.

They also accepted the resignation of Ralph Green, temporary school resource officer, at the middle school. “He was a great SRO,” said Superintendent Matt Geha, adding that Mr. Green took a job elsewhere in the private sector.

The school board hired James Beatty as a substitute teacher and Renardo Kelly as a substitute custodian.

Supplemental contracts for 2023-24 were issued to Kristy Disalle, Angela Enderlen, Anjanette Newcombe and Nicol Riston, building leadership team at Holland Intermediate.

Similarly, Holloway Elementary instructors Leann Beach and Brad Konrad were awarded a split contract for safety patrol.

Tutor contracts for 202324 were approved for Jamie Lenox, out of school instruction (OOSI) and Kimberly Peterman and Heather Zuccareal, OOSI and Springfield Digital instruction.

Other Business

In other business, the school board:

•Approved the annual appropriations resolution of $56.75 million for this fiscal year.

•Awarded a speech therapy services contract to Strategic SLP Services, LLC on an asneeded basis at an hourly rate of $75.

•Heard from Mr. Geha that the school year has gotten off to a smooth start. “Everything has been going well,” he said.

Mr. Geha also noted the Class of 1973 recently held their reunion at a local establishment. “They had a great turnout. I spoke with a lot of people.”

•Learned that the boys varsity soccer team is doing well and looks to clinch the Northern Lakes Title this year.

•Approved a revision to the board of education bylaw and policy as it pertains to long-term substitute pay, giving the longterm substitute a pay rate equal to their years in education.

•Approved four requests to attend professional development meetings.

The next board of education meeting will be at 4 p.m., Tuesday, October 10, at the Springfield administration complex, 6924 Spring Valley Drive, Holland, and is open to the public.
