On April 8, Springfield School officials received word from the Ohio Department of Education that the high school’s designation as a Purple Star School has been renewed.

“I applaud and appreciate your unwavering commitment to serving military-connected students and families, wrote Dr. Stephanie Siddens, interim superintendent of public instruction, in a letter to Superintendent Matt Geha.

“Each Child, Our Future, is Ohio’s strategic plan for education that recognizes the importance of supporting needs of the whole child.

“To be successful in school and when transitioning between school settings, Ohio’s military-connected youth require particular supports to ensure that their unique social, emotional and academic needs are met,” she said.

The award signifies the high school’s demonstrated commitment to serving these students and their families.

Ohio’s advisory board established a set of criteria that schools must meet to be considered for the designation.

“It gives me great pride to announce that your school continues to meet these criteria,” Ms. Siddens noted.

Each designation is valid for three years. Springfield High School may apply for another renewal in 2024.
