Toledo Helps Ukraine/4ua. org, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is hosting its fourth annual Cookie Walk on Saturday, December 13, from 9 to 11 a.m., or until sold out, at the Rossford Recreation Center, 400 Dixie Highway. All proceeds go toward the humanitarian work of Toledo Helps Ukraine.
“Baking delicious cookies, breads, and nut rolls is part of Ukraine’s culture,” said Alona Matchenko, president of Toledo Helps Ukraine. “Our Cookie Walk is a tribute to Ukraine and what many have come to learn about the talented, generous people of Ukraine.”
Visitors can select from hundreds of cookies, including traditional Christmas cookies and Eastern European favorites like kolachy, along with nut and poppy seed rolls and sweet raisin bread. Cookies will be available for $12 a dozen. There will also be handmade Christmas items including ornaments and coasters for sale.
Cookie donations are also appreciated for the Cookie Walk. Donations of homemade cookies may be dropped off at the Rossford Recreation Center on Friday, December 12, from 3 to 6 p.m. Please package the cookies in disposable containers.
“It’s difficult to believe Ukraine is entering its fourth brutal winter of war,” said Matchenko. “Many Ukrainians struggle to find warmth and comfort, as Russia has damaged or destroyed many of the country’s power grids. Toledo Helps Ukraine will continue to raise funds and assist Ukrainians as they endure the travesties of war every day.”
Toledo Helps Ukraine, which began when Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, has mobilized volunteers both locally and in Ukraine, collected and shipped over $500,000 in medical supplies and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, coordinated all documents and paperwork for 18 Ukrainian refugee families—67 individuals total—to come to the United States and assisted refugees in settling in Northwest Ohio and nearby communities.
