Each month, Crissey Elementary recognizes students who have exemplified one of the traits of portrait of a Springfield graduate. The character trait that students focused on for the month of February was acceptance.
Penta Career Center opened its doors to more than 2,000 students from 16 member school districts, which includes Springfield Schools, for the annual Career Expo. This year’s event, held February 27 and 28, featured a variety of career areas for students to explore.
A once-in-a-lifetime eclipse will plunge northwest Ohio into darkness at 3:11 p.m., Monday, April 8. The annual spring clean-up of the Springfield Township cemetery by the Department of Public Services will begin in April. Andrew Hohlbein, cemetery sexton, is asking that all winter grave decorations and other items (including shepherd hooks) be removed from gravesites by April 1, or the cemetery attendants will remove them.
Signs of the coming spring are showing with increasing frequency. Sandhill cranes are among the species observed returning to our area. In recent years, the numbers of this big heron-like bird have been steadily increasing.
An album of eight original recordings by Toledo musician Thaddaeus Washington, set for release this Friday, is a collaboration between music and nature, incorporating sounds from local Metroparks. “Common Ground” blends familiar sounds from the woods, prairies and rivers with guitar to create soothing music.

This year in music class, students have an opportunity to learn about different musicians throughout the school year as part of a yearlong unit called “Artist of the Month.” February’s artist of the month was Stevie Wonder. Stevie Wonder is an American singer-songwriter, musician and record producer.
