Love songs are in the air. There are places, especially in the wet areas of the Oak Openings Region, where the singing is so loud one can hardly hear oneself think.

The annual spring clean-up of the Springfield Township Cemetery by the Department of Public Services will begin in April. Andrew Hohlbein, cemetery sexton, is asking that all winter grave decorations and other items (including shepherd hooks), be removed from gravesites by April 1, or the cemetery attendants will remove them.

The Friends of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge will host local artists and craftsmen during the Wildlife Stop and Shop at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, May 11 and 12, on the Visitor Center grounds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shop will be held during the Biggest Week in American Birding on World Migratory Bird Day weekend. Vendors who sell unique, nature-themed products and crafts, artwork and upcycled/recycled items following the theme of birds, wildlife and nature are invited to apply for a spot. The Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District (Lucas SWCD) annual tree, shrub and garden sale continues through Friday, March 29. Place an order online, credit cards only, at Lswcdtree.

From Saturday, April 6. to Monday, April 8, Homecoming park will be open to tent and RV camping. The township has 120 sites available, and camping will be rustic with porta-potties and no electric or running water.

Lourdes University will present the 2024 Sr. Jane Mary Sorosiak lecture, titled “Acquisition Anecdotes of a TMA Curator of European Paintings” featuring Lawrence Nichols, the first curator emeritus of the Toledo Museum of Art.

The onset of warmer temperatures in March marks the beginning of the spring severe weather season. Ohio’s Severe Weather Awareness Week, proclaimed by Governor Mike DeWine for the week of March 17 to 23, encourages residents to prepare for weather incidents that typically occur during spring and summer months, but could strike at any time.
