Love songs are in the air. There are places, especially in the wet areas of the Oak Openings Region, where the singing is so loud one can hardly hear oneself think.

Personnel items addressed at Springfield BOE meeting

At the March 13 meeting, the Springfield Board of Education took action on a number of personnel matters. The board issued changes of assignment for 2024-25 to Kelly Kahmann and Hallie Wright-Comes, teachers on special assignment (dyslexia specialists), kindergarten through grade eight.

Cemetery clean-up in April

The annual spring clean-up of the Springfield Township Cemetery by the Department of Public Services will begin in April. Andrew Hohlbein, cemetery sexton, is asking that all winter grave decorations and other items (including shepherd hooks), be removed from gravesites by April 1, or the cemetery attendants will remove them.

Wildlife Stop and Shop seeking local art vendors

The Friends of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge will host local artists and craftsmen during the Wildlife Stop and Shop at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, May 11 and 12, on the Visitor Center grounds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shop will be held during the Biggest Week in American Birding on World Migratory Bird Day weekend. Vendors who sell unique, nature-themed products and crafts, artwork and upcycled/recycled items following the theme of birds, wildlife and nature are invited to apply for a spot. Statewide tornado drill set for March 20

The onset of warmer temperatures in March marks the beginning of the spring severe weather season. Ohio’s Severe Weather Awareness Week, proclaimed by Governor Mike DeWine for the week of March 17 to 23, encourages residents to prepare for weather incidents that typically occur during spring and summer months, but could strike at any time.

Metroparks volunteer orientation is April 29
